AUTOBIOGRAPHY
I was born on January 20, 1994 in Houston, TX. I am the oldest child of four. My family consists of my mom, my dad, my sister Marina, my two brothers Jorge, Javier, and me. My parents are from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. I've been to San Luis a few times and I think it is a really pretty place to go visit. When we go we like to play soccer, with my dad’s cousins. It is really fun to go.
I've always been a really quiet and shy girl until one day everything changed. This day was June 26 2011. This day I became part of a group of scholars chosen to go to Beijing, China for six weeks. While in China I was thought to speak in public, to speak out, and to get out of my comfort zone. We also visited historical places in Beijing. The place I liked the most was the summer palace because it as a big lake and I full of nature and it has a really pretty tower.
I am a senior at Sharpstown International School. While my junior year I was elected to be president of the senior class of 2013. The rest of the senior officers and I have been working hard to rich our goal which is to raise enough money for prom.
My favorite pass time is to play soccer with my brothers and cousins. I also like to play basket ball with my friends. I am a really short person so I am not very good at playing basketball but I am getting good at it. I also like to read two of y favorite book are ALL BUT MY LIFE and SOLD. I like these books because they talk about the hardship that these girls had to go through to survive.
One of the things I do best id helping people. This is one of the reasons I want to become a nurse. To me being a nurse is not just measuring the height of the patient, or measuring its weight, to me being a nurse is a way of putting my little grain of rice to save lives by actually getting to know the patient and know what bothers him or her.

Important Decisions in Life
"Hey Laura," Mr. Haytten said when he saw me. I was so happy to see him that I started to walk quickly so I could hug him. "How are you?" I asked. "I am good," he said. Then he started talking about how bad the students were, and that he missed my class. I looked around the class room and saw everything the same, and I felt like a middle school again. All these flashbacks came to my mind, like when I compete with my friends on who had memorized most of the notes.
"So what brings you here Laura," Mr. Haytten said interrupting my train of thought. I just came to visit you and to ask you for your opinion on something," I said. "What’s up?" he said. "Well I've been offered a scholarship to go to China, and I am trying to decide whether to take it or not" I said. "Laura, I really encourage you to go, the reason is that being away from home, and getting out of your comfort zone helps you learn new things about yourself, also it helps you grow in many ways. As you know I lived in Europe for two years, and from my experience I can tell you that if you decide to go to China you are going to have so much fun," he said. "Thank you Mr. Haytten, I think I've made my decision, wish me luck," I said. I gave him a hug and left with a big smile on my face.
Finally the special day came. I woke up early because I had to be at the airport at eight o’clock in the morning. When we arrived to the airport I started feeling butterflies in my stomach. I looked around to see if I could find the other scholars that were also going to China. My family and I walked around the airport looking for two other girls, Marylu, and Elizabeth. When we found them I said good bye to my mom, and dad, and to my brothers and sister. "There is just one person missing," Elizabeth said. Five minutes later Aaron arrived so we were ready to get on the plane. Thirteen hours later we arrived in Beijing, China. I looked around the airport amazed on how everything looked so pretty.
While in Beijing we visited a school named the Dandelion School. During our visit we teach the students about American culture. When we arrived to the school and I saw all the faces of the children, all I saw was happy faces, the little boy and girls seemed really happy to see us. The first thing we did when we arrived was play with them. I was taking a break after playing basketball with the boys when this girl came up to me and said, "Do you want to play jump rope with us." "Yes of course let’s go," I said. When jumping rope we counted both in Chinese and in English because I had to practice my Chinese and they had to practice their English. After playing in the play ground our facilitators assigned us a classroom, and when my group and I enter we saw our class. I looked around and I saw my friend the girl that asked me if I wanted to play with them. I smiled at her and she smiled back. I was so happy because I knew at least one of my students. We ate dinner in the classroom and then we went to sleep. The next morning when I woke up and went outside I saw that the whole school was running around the playground. One of the facilitators came up to me and asked me, "Do you want to join the morning exercise?" "Yeah sure," said I. So I started running. Inside of me I was thinking how can these children do this with this hot sun in ones face and without eating breakfast, but I kept running because it was actually pretty fun. After the morning exercise we had breakfast in the classroom. After breakfast we went down stairs to clean our bowls, and when I came back I saw one of the students sweeping the floor. After seeing this I was so amaze because in America none of the students appreciate that we have someone to clean after us. The first thing we did when class started was to play duck duck goose, it was so much fun. We kept playing other games that are really common here in America, and that helped them improve their English vocabulary. That weekend at the Dandelion School went by so fast, and I dint wanted to go back home it was so sad for both of us the "teachers" and the students that we had to go back.
Mr. Haytten has encouraged me in so many ways not only on going to China but to do well in school and to always try my best. I will never be able to thank him enough on shaping me to the person I am now. Thanks to him I was able to have one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. My parents didn't want me to go to China but thanks to him I decided to go.

COLLEGE AND CAREER PLAN
I plan to attend Prairie View A&M to major in Nursing. I would like to be a nurse because I like helping people. Another reason I want to be a nurse is because in contrast of doctors nurses get to know their patients better so they know what makes the patient happy and that makes him uncomfortable.
